Understanding the World of Beauty and Fashion

Curly Men Rule

Having long curly hair as a man can be a difficult thing to live with, but if you understand how to tame and manage your frizz, then you can turn it into a timeless fashion statement. With so many TV heroes sporting a curly mane, now's the time to experiment with a hairstyle that's a little less conformist than your average short back and sides. This guide will give you a good overview of some of the great natural products out there that can help you to look after your hair and feel confident.

Washing

Washing curly hair every day isn't a great idea; instead, it should be done only sparingly throughout the week whenever it starts to feel greasy or dirty. When you wash curly hair, you remove the oils which have a hard time reaching the tip of the hair anyway due to the shape of the hair strands. Make sure you wash with a moisturising shampoo and conditioner, preferably with argan oil in it. This will help it to stay soft and manageable. Using a wide-toothed comb will help to distribute the conditioner evenly without parting the hairs too much, which leads to frizz. Rinse with cool water to avoid drying the hair out, then pat dry and leave to dry naturally.

Natural Oils

If you want a natural hair treatment, then use coconut oil or almond oil. Coconut oil can be gently warmed and used as a hair mask before washing it out or applied sparingly to help combat frizz and kill off bacteria in the hair. Almond oil can also be applied but is best done after drying as it moisturises the hair and is good for combating dandruff. Just be aware that putting in too much coconut oil can result in bits that look like dandruff. This is the coconut oil cooling and solidifying, so try to use only a small amount.

Before Bed

One of the best things you can do before bed is to use a leave-in conditioner. This can be sprayed into the hair and left in, allowing you to moisturise your hair whilst you sleep. This is great during colder months or hotter summers where the more extreme temperatures can dry your hair out. It works even better if you spend a lot of time at the beach in salt water. Couple this with a good pomade when styling the next morning.
